About Us

The Redline Breathalyser is an inexpensive, disposable, Australian Standards Certified breath testing device which quickly and simply provides an indication of your breath's alcohol content which is shown against a measurement of the legal drink-driving limit.  In Australia, the legal limit indicator is calibrated to 0.05% BAC.

Distributed throughout South Australia by Easy Turning Green!

Redlines are NOT a novelty or gimmick.  They are a road safety device designed to assist the user in making their decision whether they are able to drive a vehicle within the legal drink-drive limit following the consumption of alcohol.  And they’re not only for use immediately after drinking, they’re also ideal ‘the morning after’ – when it’s easy to be still in excess of the drink-drive limit.

We do not condone or promote drink-driving under any circumstances.  But, unfortunately, many people still choose to drink and drive despite the associated risks, and therefore our product is designed to simply help guide the user regarding their assessment of their ability to drive within the law.

Originally devised for police use, Redlines are still specified as the preferred preliminary alcohol screener by the police forces of France, Italy, Israel, and many other countries. Often with bespoke branding, Redlines are available from most leading retail supermarkets and grocery chains throughout Europe. You’ll also find them in liquor stores, pharmacies, auto service station networks and convenience stores, as well as in bars, hotels, restaurants, etc and sports and entertainment destinations. Redlines have been used to promote responsible drink-driving behaviour by numerous global organizations including Fiat and Alfa Romeo, SAB Miller, BP and BMW. Such corporate promotions add positive values to any brand through association with the strong ‘socially responsible’ drink-driving message. Redline Around the World Approximately 100 million Redline units have now been manufactured, and they are currently distributed via a network of agents and distributors in the various markets of over 30 countries, primarily within Europe. You’ll find Redlines in use in countries as diverse as the Republic of Chad and the Republic of Ireland, and across the globe from Papua New Guinea to the USA. Redline is recognised throughout the world as the leading disposable breath alcohol testing device. It is totally unique through its extensive multi-national technical Certifications and authoritative endorsements. It’s phenomenal growth and success is attributed to the ever-growing increase in public and private sector awareness of the issues associated with drink-driving, and the consumer’s desire for an inexpensive technically superior product with proven performance.

Redlines do not directly measure Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC). They interpret the volume of alcohol in a breath sample (Breath Alcohol Content, BrAC) in terms of BAC through using the internationally accepted correlation factor or ‘partition ratio’ between BrAC and BAC. Note that in Australia and New Zealand, the legal limits are a measurement of BAC. Each Redline test tube contains yellow crystals which turn green pro rata to the volume of alcohol present in the breath sample collected by the breath bag, and indicate that volume against a measurement of the legal drink-driving limit. Remember that BAC can continue rising for up to 2 hours after consuming your last drink. There is no ‘rule of thumb’ regarding how much it will rise over any given period of time. However, common sense should tell you that if you have consumed a lot of alcohol over a short period of time, it will rise more for longer than when compared to the same person consuming the same amount over a longer period. Similarly, if you have consumed only a small amount of alcohol, it is highly likely that your BAC will keep rising for an extended period. Note also that it can take 10 hours or more for blood alcohol levels to return to zero after a high blood alcohol level has been reached. Accordingly, Redlines should be used even well after the time of excessive consumption of alcohol. Understanding Redline Results Even though the Redline device is the ONLY disposable breathalyzer to be a Certified Product by Standards Australia as a reliable way of assessing breath alcohol content, it is a non-evidentiary screening device which means that you can’t rely on its results for legal evidence. The user must still use their discretion in interpreting results and in making decisions based upon them. This legal status is not unique to results obtained only from Redlines. It also applies to almost all breathalyser devices, including the hand-held digital models used by the police in a preliminary breath test in a roadside check or suchlike. The only breath testing device whose results have any standing in law is known as an ‘evidential’ breath tester – a specialized desk-top machine requiring regular certification of accuracy calibration and a trained operator. Such machines are most often used by police to obtain evidence for criminal drink-driving charges. It is therefore misleading for someone to be dismissive of Redlines and all other hand-held or personal devices on the basis that they provide “only a guide” to BAC, as they cannot provide anything else according to the law. Research has proven that most people do not know that personal BAC levels can vary dramatically between individuals who have consumed similar amounts of alcohol. It’s also not commonly known that there is no consistency in the rate that BAC increases or declines. The amount of alcohol in your breath after you have been drinking is influenced by many things, including how much you drank, what you have been drinking, when you last had a drink, your body mass, your recent food consumption, etc. Consumption of food, coffee or any other beverage including water, cold showers, medical remedies, exercise or any other activity does not speed up the dissipation of alcohol by the body. Time is the only factor in this regard. The guidelines for ‘safe’ consumption of alcohol, intended for use by consumers to maintain their BAC below the legal drink-drive limit, can be useful – but can also be quite misleading for various individuals. Everybody’s body is different! Using a Redline test removes the variable factors of BAC measurement between individuals and provides excellent guidance to responsible and legal drink-driving behaviour for anyone.
